Frequently asked questions

The Hydro & Me Panel is a community of people we consult on a regular basis, usually through online surveys. Participants join the panel on a voluntary basis to share their different points of view on topics related to Hydro‑Québec’s mission and activities.

Quebecers who join the Hydro & Me Panel have the chance to influence Hydro‑Québec’s decisions and projects by sharing their experiences and opinions as part of consultations. By doing so, they are helping to shape Québec’s energy future and enable Hydro‑Québec to better serve its customers.

Taking part in the Hydro & Me Panel is also the chance to win prizes and be among the first to get information on Hydro‑Québec’s upcoming projects.

Just click on Sign up and complete the online form. You will then receive an email to confirm your participation. It is important to click on the link in the email to complete the sign-up process.

The Hydro & Me Panel is open to participants aged 18 or older who live in Québec. To become a panelist, you must have a valid email address and internet access.

The consultations focus on a range of topics related to Hydro‑Québec’s mission and activities.

Examples include:
  • your needs and expectations when it comes to new products and services
  • your energy efficiency habits
  • your motivations to adopt new behaviours or not
  • your comments and suggestions on the evolution of specific products, services or commercial offers
  • the ways in which you use our digital platforms and your satisfaction with them
  • your opinions on Hydro‑Québec’s projects
  • your interest in Hydro‑Québec’s energy efficiency projects
  • your communication preferences
  • your reactions to advertising concepts
  • the progression of your perception of energy transition issues

Most of the consultations are online surveys. You may also receive invitations to test or comment on new products and services or new digital interfaces or take part in discussion groups and co-creation activities, for example.

At the start of a consultation, potential panelists will receive an email invitation. To take part, all they need to do is follow the instructions contained in the email.

The frequency of the consultations varies. Your profile (the information you provided when you signed up) helps determine whether you are a potential participant or not.

On average, panelists are invited to one or two consultations a month. For each, we randomly select a certain number of panelists according to specific criteria related to the project. As a result, even if a panelist’s profile corresponds to the needs of consultation, they may not receive an invitation to participate.

Every consultation is different. Most online surveys take less than five minutes to complete. The approximate time to complete each survey is indicated in the email invitation.

The deadline to take part in a consultation is always indicated in the email invitation. For an online survey, participants are generally given 5 to 10 days so they have enough time to participate.

No. Participation is voluntary. It depends on whether you want to share your opinions and comments on the topic of the consultation with us. You can participate in one consultation and not the following one, in keeping with your interests and availability.

As a panelist, you agree to:
  • Actively and honestly participate in the consultations you choose to take part in.
  • Keep confidential all the content of the consultations you take part in and the terms and conditions of those you are invited to take part in.
  • Respect the terms and conditions regarding your participation in the consultations, particularly signing a confidentiality agreement when required for a specific consultation.
  • Respect Hydro‑Québec’s netiquette.
  • Participate in at least one consultation per year.
  • Update your profile in a timely manner, when requested to do so.
  • If you change email address, inform the team as soon as possible by writing to panel@hydroquebec.com.
  • Sign up for the panel one time only.
You also agree that should you fail to respect any of these commitments, your panelist profile may be deactivated.

A few times a year, the panel team will send you an overview of the decisions and projects that were influenced by the panelists taking part in the consultations. These emails highlight the relevance of your participation.

You can be part of the panel for as long as you like, as long as it remains active. You can end your participation at any time by clicking on the unsubscribe link included in all our emails.

Please note that Hydro‑Québec reserves the right to deactivate your profile if you do not participate in a consultation for at least 12 months and do not respond to our follow-up messages.

There is a monthly draw for two cheques of $100 for panelists who complete the online surveys. For each one, you’ll be entered in the monthly draw.

Read the contest rules for further details.

You may also receive specific compensation for taking part in another type of consultation, like a discussion group, co-creation activity or testing one of our digital platforms. The email invitation will provide further details, including information on how to participate.

Employees, officers, representatives and agents of Hydro-Québec and those of Dialogs (contest organizer) as well as their immediate family members and the persons with whom they are domiciled are not eligible and cannot participate in the contest.

The probability of winning one of the two $100 cheques depends on the number of consultations held during the month and the number of eligible panelists who participated.

The personal information you provide when you sign up is used to establish your eligibility and create your profile. We use the information to target the consultations that are the most relevant to you.

The information you provide will remain strictly confidential and is not linked to your responses to the consultations. Your depersonalized responses are aggregated and analyzed for research and marketing purposes. In other words, your responses are combined with the responses from all other participants, so that your identity is not connected to the data used.

Hydro‑Québec will keep your personal information, panelist profile and responses to the consultations for as long as you are an active member of the panel.

If you leave the panel or if Hydro‑Québec deactivates your profile, your first name and email address will be removed from our systems, making your data anonymous. We will keep this anonymous data for as long as required, without being able to identify you.

Depending on your email service provider and your inbox settings, some email messages from automated systems may be sent directly to your junk mail folder.

Check your junk mail folder and, if necessary, authorize email messages from sender consultation@panel.hydroquebec.com or mark one of the panel emails as not junk.

If you checked your junk mail folder and did not see a confirmation email from the panel, write to us at panel@hydroquebec.com.

Most of the time, the information contained in our panelists’ profiles is sufficient to identify participants for each of our consultations. However, certain projects may be more relevant to a very targeted group defined by characteristics that do not appear in panelists’ profiles.

In such cases, specific questions at the beginning of a survey help us determine your eligibility. That is why you may not be part of the target group for a consultation even though you received an invitation to participate.

Write to the Hydro & Me Panel team at panel@hydroquebec.com with the following information, which you will find in the email invitation you received:

  • Topic of the consultation
  • URL of the survey (if specified)

To help us best respond to your question, please include as many details as possible, without including any personal information. For example, you could include:

  • Description of the problem that occurred
  • Copy of the error message that appeared on your screen
  • Copy of the question you were answering when the problem occurred
  • Your web browser and the version you are using

First, wait a few moments for the page to download. This may take a few minutes, depending on your internet connection.

You can refresh the web page, close the window or click on the link in the email invitation again. In most cases, you will go back to the page you were filling out, and the survey should download properly.

You can also try opening a different web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, etc.) to complete the survey.

Note that using your web browser’s BACK and NEXT buttons could cause the survey to quit. Use the navigation buttons under the questions instead.

It is very likely that we received your answers. They are sent to us automatically.

If you did not finish answering the survey and wish to do so, click on the link in the invitation email again to access the survey. If you have completed it, a message will notify you that you have already used the link.

You can leave the panel at any time by clicking on the unsubscribe link included in all the emails from the panel or by writing to panel@hydroquebec.com.
Your email address will then be removed from our database, and you will no longer receive communications from the panel.
